Stratford boys basketball team’s season ends with WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal loss at Marathon

MARATHON – The Stratford boys basketball team had its season come to an end with a 59-35 loss to Marathon in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal Friday night at Marathon High School.

The Tigers (13-11) hung with the Marawood Conference South Division champion for the first half, trailing 26-19 at the break, but only scored 16 points in the second half and lost to Marathon for the third time this season.

Stratford was just 13 of 32 from the field and committed 15 turnovers in the loss.

Derrick Schmidt had 10 points and Ethan Nagel had eight for the Tigers.

Marathon (20-3) moves on to a Division 4 regional final against Oconto (19-4) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at home. The winner moves into a sectional semifinal against Edgar (20-3) or Crivitz (19-4) on March 10 at D.C. Everest.
