Stratford softball stays unbeaten in Marawood South with win at Newman Catholic

WAUSAU – Stratford came back from a one-run deficit scoring seven runs over the final three innings to defeat Wausau Newman Catholic 8-2 in a Marawood Conference South Division softball game Monday at Sunnyvale Park.

The Tigers are now 9-2 overall and 7-0 in the Marawood South, while Newman falls to 3-4 and 2-4 in the conference.

Kiana Weiler earned the win for the Tigers, striking out three and allowing five hits in a complete-game effort.

Macey Kilty, Sammy Kaiser and Casey Kolbeck each had three hits, and Brittany Bredemann had two triples for Stratford.

“We had a slow start tonight but I’m proud of the girls for staying mentally tough, pitching well, playing solid defense, and getting the runs across when we needed them,” Stratford coach Mandy Pankratz said.

The Tigers host Spencer in a nonconference doubleheader Tuesday at Hilgemann Field starting at 4:30 p.m.
