Marshfield Junior Legion baseball splits pair with Merrill

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Junior Legion baseball team split a doubleheader with Merrill on Tuesday, winning 17-0 and losing 10-8, at Jack Hackman Field.

The Blue Demons are now 17-8 and host Medford for a doubleheader on Thursday prior to the start of their annual home tournament.

In the opener, Marshfield scored seven times in the first inning and added six more in the third.

Ryan Krueger earned the win, giving up just one hit and striking out four in four innings. Mason Coffren had three hits and three RBIs, Branden Montalvo had two singles, scored three times and drove in a pair, and Devin Toburen had two hits and an RBI for Marshfield.

In the second game, Merrill ran out to a 10-5 lead before Marshfield tried to rally in the fifth. The Blue Demons scored three times but couldn’t get any closer in the final frame. No individual statistics were reported.

The Marshfield Tournament will take place Friday and Saturday with five teams competing. On Friday, Marshfield hosts South Wood County at 5:30 p.m. at Reeths Field. Pittsville will take on La Crosse at Hackman Field at 6:15 p.m., followed by Marshfield vs. Chippewa Falls at approximately 8:15 p.m.

On Saturday all games will be played at Hackman Field. La Crosse and South Wood County plays at 9 a.m., followed by Marshfield and Pittsville at 11 a.m.; Chippewa Falls vs. South Wood County at 1 p.m.; Marshfield vs. La Crosse at 3 p.m.; and Chippewa Falls vs. Pittsville at 5 p.m.
