ORLANDO, Fla. – Three Marshfield MAGIC youth gymnasts competed at the AAU National Gymnastics Tournament at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney World on July 1-2, earning valuable experience and some hardware for their efforts.
Incoming sixth graders Kayla Drexler of Stratford and Ashlyn Guldan of Auburndale, and soon-to-be eighth grader Rachel Lindner of Greenwood competed in the tournament after qualifying through the MAGIC program.
Marshfield MAGIC is the competition team for the University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County Continuing Education Youth Gymnastics program.
Lindner was shaky to start, falling during her bars routine but she rebounded in resounding fashion.
Lindner placed fourth in the vault with a score of 8.45, was third in the balance beam with a score of 8.875 to earn a bronze medal, and won the Level 5 national title with a score of 9.275 on the floor exercise. She also ended up with a bronze medal in the all-around scoring.
“I am so proud of Rachel,” MAGIC coach Allie Dryer said. “She has improved drastically this year and is continuing to develop into a fantastic gymnast. Rachel is such an inspiration to our younger gymnasts who look up to her successes.”
Drexler and Guldan competed in Level 2 all-around. Guldan finished 12th with a score of 34.375. Drexler was sixth on the uneven bars with a score of 9.0 and was eighth in the all-around with a score of 34.7.
Coach Allie Dryer said both had solid routines with no major mistakes.
“Marshfield MAGIC is so proud of these two young ladies capping off an exceptional first competitive season in their gymnastics careers,” Dryer said.
