Marshfield athletes eliminated at WIAA state track meet

LA CROSSE – The season came to an abrupt end Friday for the contingent of Marshfield athletes competing at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Four individuals competing in five events and two relay teams failed to qualify for Saturday’s finals during Division 1 preliminary races on Friday.

Senior Ellen Stichert finished 17th overall in the 110-meter hurdles (16.92 seconds) and 18th in the 300 hurdles (47.80) during preliminary heats on Friday. The top 10 qualified for Saturday’s finals.

Stichert was also part of the girls 1,600-meter relay team, along with Amanda Cousins, Kelsey Weigel and Alexa Fritsch. The Tigers came in with the 24th and last qualifying time from sectionals (4:10.43) and could not improve on that, finishing last in prelims with a time of 4:14.87.

Sophomore Bisola Omoba rounded out the Marshfield girls performers by taking 16th in preliminaries with a time of 13.27 in the 100 meters.

Sophomore Jeremy Robinson missed qualifying in the boys 200 meters by just 0.02 of a second, taking 11th in prelims with a time of 22.70 seconds.

Robinson and the 400 boys relay team that included Riley Gebelen, Logan Schmitz and TJ Vantassal finished 21st out of 24 teams in preliminaries with a time of 43.23 seconds, which was an improvement of 0.6 of a second over their sectional qualifying time.
