WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Mariah Mathews scored a goal in each half to lift Wisconsin Rapids past Marshfield 2-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference girls soccer game Thursday.

Mathews scored in the 24th and 69th minutes, both off assists from Ciera Nieman, for the Raiders, who complete a season sweep of Marshfield.

Marshfield was held to just two shots on goal, both saved by Chani Pulchinski.

Wisconsin Rapids is now 12-2-2 overall and 8-1 in the WVC. Marshfield drops to 3-10-1 and 2-5 in conference.

“I am very proud of the effort tonight against Rapids,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We showed some aggression, hustle and better composure. Makenna Hart, Emily Critelli, Inga Berg and Ana Paape did a nice job on defense, and our midfielders responded after an OK first half.”

Marshfield plays three WVC games next week – Monday at Wausau East, Tuesday at home against Merril, and Thursday at D.C. Everest.
