Marshfield Post 54 Legion baseball beats Altoona, finishes 2-2 at Eau Claire Tournament

EAU CLAIRE – The Marshfield Post 54 American Legion baseball team salvaged a four-game split at the Eau Claire Legion Tournament with an 8-3 win over Altoona on Sunday afternoon at Carson Park.

Nine different Marshfield players had at least one hit in the victory, as the Blue Devils finished 2-2 at the three-day tournament and are now 9-10 this summer.

Dawson Brock allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings, striking out six to grab the win for the Blue Devils.

Marshfield scored a pair of runs in the first inning and three more in the third to take a 5-1 lead, then held on from there.

Jake Brueggen had a two-run single in the first, and Jared Johnsrud and Hunter Korger had RBI singles in the third for the Blue Devils.

Austin Palacek doubled to scored Brueggen in the fourth, Ryan Krueger had an RBI single in the fifth, and Johnsrud added another RBI hit in the sixth to round out the scoring for Marshfield.

Brueggen finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Paul Maguire, Krueger and Johnsrud each had two singles in the win.

Marshfield hosts Plover in its final home game of the season at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hackman Field.
