Spencer volleyball finishes sixth at Marathon Invite

MARATHON – The Spencer volleyball team went 2-3 to finish in sixth place at the Marathon Early Bird Invitational on Saturday at Marathon High School.

The Rockets beat Northland Lutheran 25-21, 25-18, and Fall Creek 18-25, 25-16, 15-13. Spencer lost to Phillips 25-14, 25-13; Stratford 25-13, 25-9; and Thorp 25-18, 25-14.

Lexi Baehr had 31 kills, 22 digs and seven service aces, and Elexa Post had 31 digs for the Rockets. Sadie Mercier added 61 assists, six aces and six blocks, and Chloe Drews had 18 kills for Spencer.

“We struggled with serve receive all day, that hurt us,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “However, we made a lot of improvements since Tuesday (0-4 at its home invite).”

Spencer hosts Mosinee in a nonconference match on Sept. 5.
