Rhinelander doubles up Marshfield boys hockey

MARSHFIELD – Rhinelander scored three unanswered goals in the second and third periods to pull out a 4-2 win over Marshfield in a nonconference boys hockey game Tuesday night at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.

The score was tied 1-1 after the first period before Rhinelander (14-8) pulled ahead on goals by Freedy Wisner and Conor Pequet in the second period, and Harlan Wojtusik midway through the third.

Ryan Krueger scored off an assists from Nate Boson with 1:35 remaining in the game to cut the Hodags’ lead to 4-2, but Marshfield simply ran out of time.

Ben Baur had Marshfield’s first goal at the 13:19 mark of the first period.

A.J. Trierweiler had 12 saves in goal for the Tigers, who drop to 11-12 this season.

Marshfield will close out its regular-season and Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule at home against Wausau West on Thursday.
