Auburndale girls basketball earns road win at Athens

ATHENS – The Auburndale girls basketball team is heating up for the postseason.

The Apaches won for the eighth time in its last nine games by holding off Athens 45-37 in a Marawood Conference crossover game Friday night at Athens High School.

Auburndale is now 16-5 overall and 11-4 in the Marawood South as it secures a second-place finish in the division following the win.

Natalie Aue had 12 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Apaches, who saw all nine players that played hit the scoring column. Hailey Grimm, Georgi Schmutzer and Taylor Stanton all chipped in six points each in the win.

Athens falls to 7-14 overall and 6-9 in the Marawood North. Statistics for the Bluejays were not reported.

Auburndale wraps up its regular-season schedule Thursday at Marawood South champion Wausau Newman Catholic.
