Auburndale girls basketball cruises past Wild Rose in WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal

AUBURNDALE – Georgi Schmutzer continued her hot late-season shooting, hitting four 3-pointers and scoring a game-high 18 points to lead the Auburndale girls basketball team to a 71-23 win over Wild Rose in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal Friday night at Auburndale High School.

Schmutzer, who had nine 3-pointers in the Eagles’ final two regular-season games and scored a combined 40 points in the pair of wins, made two 3-pointers in the first half to help push Auburndale out to a 39-10 lead by halftime.

Kaitlyn Kundinger and Annamarie Aue each added 13 points, and Hailey Grimm scored 10 for the Eagles, who improve to 16-4.

Top-seeded Auburndale will host No. 3 seed Iola-Scandinavia (14-4) in a regional final at 7 p.m. Saturday. Iola-Scandinavia whipped No. 2 seed Rosholt 66-42 on the road Friday.
