MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield volleyball team finished off its second-straight Wisconsin Valley Conference championship with a 3-0 sweep of Merrill in dominating fashion Thursday night at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers won 25-13, 25-16, 25-11, to avenge an early-season five-set loss to Merrill and finish the conference season with a 10-2 record, which ended up tied for first place with D.C. Everest.

The conference title is the 11th for veteran coach Dawn Sadowska, to go along with ones in 1992, 1997, 1999, 2001-06, and last year.

“We are so proud of our team for winning their second conference championship in a row,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “Every day this group has come in the gym ready to get better. We can enjoy this until Monday, but then it’s time to start working toward our next goal!”

Casey Frankland had 16 kills and 13 digs, Abby Ongna added 10 kills, Elise Uphoff had 11 digs, and Reinya Balderson had 35 assists for Marshfield in the victory.

“Our team worked really well tonight,” Marshfield senior Sidney Mattson said. “It was awesome that we went 3-0. It was a big win for us and we won conference.”

Marshfield will open WIAA postseason play next Thursday, Oct. 21, at home against Wausau East at 7 p.m.
