MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield volleyball team is off to sectionals after posting a 3-0 sweep of Menomonie in a WIAA Division 1 regional final Saturday night at Marshfield High School.

The third-seeded Tigers won 25-15, 25-20, 25-21, to move on to a WIAA Division 1 sectional semifinal at Wausau West on Thursday against No. 2 seed Chippewa Falls.

“The fans have been awesome this year and tonight again, they came out in force and they were helping us out,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “To be on our home court and do this, it’s just an awesome feeling tonight.”

Reinya Balderson had 38 assists in the win for Marshfield, pushing her past the 1,000 mark for the season, which is a school record. She also added 11 digs in the victory.

“That’s never happened in our program before,” Sadowska said. “It’s incredible. She (Balderson) has come so far since August. She’s just taken over and done a great job. She had some great hitters to work with, but she has to put a good ball up for them. We’re really proud of her.”

Casey Frankland had 12 kills, Abby Ongna had 11 kills and 15 digs, Elise Uphoff also had 15 digs, and Caitlyn Pernsteiner added nine kills for Marshfield.
