Aquinas shuts out Columbus Catholic in WIAA Division 4 boys soccer regional final

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team’s quest for a ninth-straight trip to the WIAA sectionals came to an end Saturday with a 2-0 loss to La Crosse Aquinas in a Division 4 regional final at Griese Park.

The third-seed Aquinas (12-5-4) moves on to a sectional semifinal at No. 1 seed Arcadia (13-3-2) on Thursday. Arcadia whipped La Crosse Coulee Christian/Providence Academy 10-0 on Saturday.

Columbus Catholic’s run of eight-straight regional titles and 10-game winning streak this season ends and the Dons finish 14-2-1.

Samuel Dickinson scored in the 54th minute to break the scoreless tie, and Joey Hirschboeck added a goal with 1:12 remaining in the game to finish off the victory for Aquinas.
