Columbus Catholic soccer jumps on Nekoosa early, cruises to win in season opener

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team scored five times in the opening 26 minutes and cruised to a 6-0 victory over Nekoosa in its 2022 season opener Tuesday at Griese Park.

Grant Olson scored twice in the first 10 minutes, Alex Edwards added two more goals in a three-minute span, and Charlie Moore added another in the 26th minute to put the Dons in control.

Edwards finished off a hat trick with another goal 11:53 into the second half.

Moore had a pair of assists, and Nathan Nemitz, Olson and Mira Torbey also had assists for the Dons.

Lucas Kreklau had one save for Columbus Catholic in goal as the Dons dominated play, allowing just two total shots in the victory.

Columbus Catholic will play at the Crusader Kickoff Classic at Central Wisconsin Christian High School in Waupun on Friday and Saturday.
