Greenwood outlasts Spencer girls basketball

SPENCER – Greenwood stepped out to a seven-point lead by halftime and held off Spencer to win its first Cloverbelt Conference East Division game of the season, 43-40, in girls basketball action Friday night at Spencer High School.

Greenwood is now 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the Cloverbelt East, while Spencer drops to 2-4 and 2-2 in conference play.

Greenwood led 24-17 at halftime before the Rockets mounted a run that came up three points short.

Freshman Autumn Davis had four 3-pointers and a team-high 14 points for Spencer, which made just 12 of 65 shots from the field and 11 of 24 at the free throw line in the loss.

Avry Wuethrich had 13 points to lead Greenwood.

Spencer plays a nonconference game at Wausau Newman Catholic on Tuesday.
