EAU CLAIRE – The Auburndale and Stratford wrestling teams earned a number of top finishes at the 32-team Husky Invitational on Saturday at Eau Claire North High School.
Stratford senior Jackson Ormond won the 195-pound title with an 8-6 overtime victory over Jackson Shramek of Blair-Taylor to help the Tigers to a fifth-place finish in the team standings.
Simley (Minn.) won the title with 572 points, with Kaukauna second with 497.5. Stratford was fifth with 255.5 and Auburndale took 11th with 173 as the two Marawood Conference teams combined for nine top-five finishes.
Carter Lueck was third at 182 for Stratford, beating Matthew Roach of Ladysmith by pin in 4:17 in the third-place match.
Roman Schmidt (106) and Ryan Becker (160) placed fourth, and Colin Cournoyer (113) and Trenton Cournoyer (120) each finished fifth for the Tigers.
Auburndale had a pair of runner-up finishes as Derek Godard lost the 106-pound final to Austyn Gryzwinski of Simley by pin in 1:13, and Sloan Welch was pinned in the 220-pound championship match by Gavin Nelson of Simley in 39 seconds.
Colton Weiler earned a third-place finish for Auburndale, beating Connor Krueger of Superior 10-9 in the 132-pound third-place match.
Auburndale and Stratford will both compete in a Marawood Conference quad on Thursday at Abbotsford. Auburndale hosts its annual invitational on Saturday, Dec. 17.
