Marshfield boys hockey drops fifth-place game at Culvers Cup to Madison West

MADISON – Marshfield scored early but couldn’t find the net again and dropped a 7-1 decision to Madison West in the fifth-place game at the Culvers Cup on Friday at the Madison Ice Arena.

Tyler Reissmann scored on a power play goal midway through the first period to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead, but Madison West retaliated with six unanswered goals in the second period to take command.

Noah Peterson and Joey Cashmer assisted on Marshfield’s only goal. Cole Halvorsen saved 19 shots and Reed Gieseking had two saves for the Tigers.

Quinton Smith had a hat trick and three assists for Madison West (5-4-2).

Marshfield (6-6) returns to action Tuesday for a nonconference game at Mosinee.
