Columbus Catholic baseball outlasts Auburndale in pitchers’ duel

MARSHFIELD – Grant Olson delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Columbus Catholic baseball team a 2-1 nonconference win over Auburndale on Thursday at Jack Hackman Field.

Auburndale scored in the top of the second on an RBI single by Kaden Anderson and the Eagles’ lead held until the Columbus rally in the sixth.

Brandon Lang reached on an error, and Blake Jakobi and Emmitt Konieczny followed with singles. After a pop out, Olson singled to right to bring home two runs and the Dons were able to hold from there.

Columbus’ Devlin Timmler and Auburndale’s Blake Raab each went the distance on the mound, allowing five hits each with no walks. Timmler struck out five and Raab seven.

Columbus Catholic hosts Gilman for a Cloverbelt Conference East Division doubleheader on Friday.

Auburndale is back in action Monday at home against Iola-Scandinavia.
