NEILLSVILLE – Neillsville held off a late rally to down Spencer 8-7 in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball finale for both teams on Friday at Neillsville High School.

The win clinches the outright conference title for Neillsville, which improves to 13-4 overall and 11-1 in the Cloverbelt East.

Spencer trailed 6-1 after five innings before plating four runs in the top of the sixth as Kaiden Miller had a two-run double, Carter Luepke knocked him in with a single, and Connor Bacon had an RBI double.

The Warriors responded with two runs in the sixth, which proved pivotal as Spencer matched it with two runs in the top of the seventh.

Miller had a sacrifice fly and Luepke had an RBI single, but the Rockets couldn’t score again with the bases loaded as Neillsville held on.

Luke Roehrborn had three hits, Miller had three RBI, and Luepke had two hits and two RBI for Spencer, who is now 11-8 overall and finishes the Cloverbelt East season in third place at 8-4.

Spencer will play nonconference games at Adams-Friendship on Monday and at Wittenberg-Birnamwood on Tuesday to wrap up its regular-season schedule.
