Columbus Catholic softball shuts out Gilman, claims share of Cloverbelt East championship

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic softball team shut out Gilman 10-0 to clinch a share of the Cloverbelt Conference East Division championship on Friday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Hailey Zimmermann tossed a complete-game four-hitter for the Dons, who finish the regular season with a 15-4 record and ended up 11-1 in the Cloverbelt East, tied with Neillsville for the conference title. Zimmermann allowed just one walk while striking out five.

Five different Dons had two hits in the victory as Columbus scored multiple runs in four different innings.

Akosua Yeboah and Cierra Dieringer each had two hits and two RBI, and Mattea Schlafke, Rhya Dieringer and Katelyn Casperson also had two hits apiece for the Dons, who had 13 hits in all.

Columbus Catholic will host Alma Center Lincoln in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal Tuesday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds beginning at 5 p.m.
