Stratford girls take second, boys third at Mosinee Cross Country Invitational

RIB MOUNTAIN – The Stratford girls finished second and the boys took third at the Mosinee Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday at Nine Mile Recreation Area.

Medford won the girls title with 36 points, while Stratford was second with 56 as Breleigh Skaya led the Tigers by finishing third in 21:15. Kayla Casperson added a fifth-place finish for the Tigers in 21:26.

Lakeland won the boys team title with 33 points as its top five all placed in the top 10 overall. Rhinelander was a distant second with 72 points, while Stratford took third with 90.

Stratford’s Cree DeFoe finished third in the boys race in 17:04, 50 seconds behind winner Taylor Karcz of Crandon. Ethan Heeg took 11th (19:04) and Derek Wiese was 20th (19:49) as well for the Stratford.

Spencer had an incomplete team, with only four runners on both of its teams.

Isaac Howlett led the Spencer boys, taking 44th in 21:40, while the top girls runner for the Rockets was Theresa Knecht, who finished 63rd in 28:12.

Spencer and Stratford will compete at the Marshfield Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Wildwood Park in Marshfield.
