Columbus Catholic volleyball wins Diocesan Tournament at McDonell

CHIPPEWA FALLS – The Columbus Catholic volleyball team finished a perfect 5-0 to win the Diocesan Tournament for the first time in program history. The tournament was held at McDonell High School on Saturday.

Columbus Catholic defeated Wausau Newman Catholic 28-26, 25-20; Chippewa Falls McDonell 15-25, 26-24, 16-14; Eau Claire Regis 25-22, 25-17; Stevens Point Pacelli 23-25, 25-22, 15-11; and Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran 25-15, 22-25, 15-12, in five hotly-contested matches.

“It was a very competitive day of volleyball,” Columbus Catholic coach Kat Egle said. “All the teams there are athletic and state-ranked. We played hard all day and had opportunities to work on our mental and physical game.”

Aaliyah Krenn had 42 digs and 36 digs, Courtney Sommer added 29 kills, 14 blocks, 64 assists and 26 digs, and Alayna Egle had 42 assists and 13 digs for the Dons.

Mattea Schlafke added 35 digs and 24 kills, Izzy Hoglund had 37 digs, and Emma Dolgner had 17 kills and six blocks as well for Columbus Catholic.

Columbus hosts Owen-Withee for a Cloverbelt Conference East Division match on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
