MARSHFIELD – Stratford hosted more than 400 runners at the Nighfall Classic 715 cross country meet on Friday night, under the lights, at RiverEdge Golf Course.
Marshfield and Marshfield Columbus Catholic were among the numerous teams at the event, where there were varsity boys and girls 5-kilometer races held, and results were divided into Large and Small divisions.
Shakopee (Minn.) and Phillips won the boys team titles, and Menomonie and Phillips earned the girls titles.
The Stratford boys and girls each finished second in the Small Division standings. The Columbus Catholic boys took sixth and the girls finished seventh.
The Marshfield girls took sixth place and the boys were seventh in the Large Division team standings.
Columbus Catholic’s Isaac Scheer continued his great season with a third-place finish in the Small Division, running in 16:15.71. The race was won by Gavin Stewart of Ladysmith in 15:44.61, with Taylor Karcz of Crandon taking second in 15:48.57.
Stratford’s Cree DeFoe finished seventh (16:55.33) and Columbus Catholic’s Nathan Scheer took ninth (17:07.27) to also earn top-10 finishes.
Marshfield’s Owen Hoerneman finished eighth (16:35.53) and Thomas Cashmer was 10th (16:37.47) to lead the Tigers in the Large Division. Owen Stuwe of Shakopee was the Large Division winner in 15:56.23, six seconds ahead of Lucas Anderson of Bloomer.
Natalie Scharenbroch led the Marshfield girls, taking fifth in the Large Division in 19:40.06. The race was won by Bloomer’s Ciara Hartman in 17:25.80.
The Stratford girls had two top-10 finishes in the Small Division as Kayla Casperson took fourth in 19:46.25 and Breleigh Skaya was 10th in 20:27.40.
Columbus Catholic’s best finish came from Abby Wojcik, who placed 21st in 21:55.28.
