AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale boys basketball team overcame a tough shooting game by clamping down on defense as it held Abbotsford to just 11 made field goals and won the Marawood Conference crossover game 59-30 on Friday night at Auburndale High School.
The Eagles shot just 35 percent from the floor (21 of 56) and were only 4-for-24 from 3-point range, but held Abbotsford to 12 points in the second half to pull away for the 29-point win.
Kaden Anderson had 18 points on the strength of 8-for-10 at the free throw line, and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds for Auburndale (2-0, 1-0 Marawood South). Caden Weinfurter added 14 points and Evan Scholl chipped in 10 in the victory.
Payton Schreiber led Abbotsford (0-3, 0-2 Marawood North) with 10 points.
Auburndale’s next game is Monday at home against Marshfield Columbus Catholic.
