Auburndale wrestling finishes second at Black River Falls Invite

BLACK RIVER FALLS – The Auburndale wrestling team opened its 2023-24 season with a second-place finish at the 21-team Black River Falls Invitational on Saturday at Black River Falls High School.

Sparta won the team title with 169.5 points, with Auburndale second with 143.5 points.

Derek Godard placed first at 113 pounds and Colton Weiler won the 144-pound title for the Eagles.

Godard defeated Sparta’s Landon Connelly 22-5 in the 113-pound final, while Weiler pinned Nathaniel Esser of Pittsville in 4:00 to take the title at 144.

Truxton Becker (106 pounds), Zade Grassel (132) and Wyatt Malsin (165) each finished third for Auburndale.

Auburndale will open its Marawood Conference season with a quadrangular meet at Athens on Thursday.
