STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point won the battle of Wisconsin Valley Conference undefeated teams with a 3-0 sweep of Marshfield in a volleyball match Thursday night at Stevens Point Area Senior High.

SPASH won 25-18, 25-12, 25-20, to improve to 3-0 in the WVC and remain in a first-place tie with Merrill, which defeated Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday. Marshfield falls to 1-1.

Tiffany Stargardt had nine kills and 12 digs, Mikala Sebastian and Chelsea Akin each had seven kills, and Darian Molter had a team-high 15 digs for the Tigers.

Setters Mary Wolff and Tori Nanstad had 12 and 11 assists, respectively, for Marshfield.

“We definitely were not on our ‘A’ game tonight,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “We gave SPASH too many free balls, giving them lots of opportunities to run their quick offense. We’ll have to bounce back quickly to play three conference matches on Saturday and stay in the race for the conference championship.”

Marshfield plays at the first of two scheduled Wisconsin Valley Conference tournaments on Saturday at Merrill.
