AUBURNDALE – Three local athletes won two individual events each at the 2015 Auburndale Track & Field Invitational on Thursday at Auburndale High School.
Athletes or relay teams from Stratford, Spencer, Marshfield Columbus Catholic and Auburndale won 14 of the 18 events in the girls completion, although Wausau Newman Catholic took the team title with 170.5 points. Stratford was second with 143, followed by Spencer with 125.5, Auburndale with 96 and Columbus Catholic with 72.
No local boys won any events as Newman Catholic also took the boys team title with 162 points. Columbus Catholic was third (85), Stratford was fourth (70), Auburndale took sixth (58) and Spencer tied Owen-Withee for ninth (39).
Winning multiple titles for the girls were Columbus Catholic’s Alexandra Hutchison in the 100 (12.50) and 200 meters (25.57); Johnelle Miner of Stratford in the 800 (2:35.96) and 1,600 (5:59.66); and Rachel Zastrow of Spencer in the 100 hurdles (16.85) and 300 hurdles (50.72).
Auburndale won the 400 and 3,200 relays, and Stratford took first in the 800 and 1,600 relays.
In the field events, Stratford’s Emilie Greenberg won the shot put (32 feet, 9.5 inches), and Spencer’s Abby Varsho took first in the jump jump (4-10) and Johanna Ellefson won the pole vault (9-0).
Auburndale’s Lee Jepsen was second in the 100 (11.58) and fourth in the 200 (23.98), and Matt Lang took second in the discus (135-4) and third in the shot put (41-9.5).
Columbus Catholic’s Christian Payant took second in the 300 hurdles (42.73) and third in the long jump (19-7.5).
Stratford had a pair of second-place finishes in the 400 and 3,200 relays, and John Geissinger and Kyle Giebel tied for third in the pole vault (9-0).
Spencer’s top finish came from the 800 relay team that placed second. Noah Zastrow also took third in the 110 hurdles (17.97) for the Rockets.
Wausau Newman Catholic’s Jake Gajewski won three individual events and was part of a winning relay team for the Cardinals.
Gajewski won the 100 (11.36), 200 (23.16) and long jump (20-2.25), and was part of the Cardinals’ winning 400 relay team.
