Marshfield girls tennis fifth at Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament

WAUSAU – Stevens Point won its fourth-straight Wisconsin Valley Conference title after sweeping all seven flights at the 2016 WVC Tournament on Thursday at Wausau East and West high schools.

Stevens Point won all seven championship matches and finished with 122 total points after finishing 6-0 in the conference regular-season dual meet schedule.

Marshfield finished fifth with 42 total points, earning at least one in six of the seven flights.

Marshfield had three fourth-place finishes.

McKensey Koran took fourth at No. 4 singles, losing the third-place match to Claire Bizjak of Wausau West 6-3, 3-6, 10-3.

The Tigers’ No. 1 doubles team of Ashley Schultz and Hanah Gadke finished fourth, losing the third-place match to Wisconsin Rapids’ Kaitlyn Hess and McKenzie Wentland 6-3, 7-6 (7-1); and the No. 2 doubles team of Tylene Dierickx and Alexis Means also lost the third-place match, falling 6-0, 6-2, to Wausau West’s Melanie McCluskey and Sidney Engman.

Dara Stichert won the consolation bracket (fifth place) at No. 2 singles for the Tigers, beating Lea Beckman 6-1, 6-3.

Stevens Point’s Emily Luetschwager won the No. 1 singles title with a pair of 6-0, 6-0, wins, to gain her fourth conference championship.
