Columbus Catholic volleyball tops Wild Rose to win WIAA Division 4 regional title

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team is moving on to sectionals after a commanding 3-0 win over Wild Rose in a WIAA Division 4 regional final Saturday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

The Dons swept the three sets by identical 25-16 scores to move on to a sectional semifinal at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption against four-time defending Division 4 state champion Wausau Newman Catholic on Thursday at 7 p.m. The winner will take on either Florence or Bowler in a sectional final Oct. 29 at Stevens Point Area Senior High.

Kendra Baierl had 24 kills, Sierra Litwaitis had 21 digs, Katie Hall added 15 digs and Celine Scholin had nine kills for the Dons.

Setters Natalie Pospyhalla and Jennifer Reigel had 24 and 16 assists, respectively.

“The girls played with a lot of heart tonight,” Columbus coach Kat Egle said. “They love the game and do not want the season to end.”
