Athens baseball player Seth Coker has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com May High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Neve received 297 of the more than 861 votes cast.
Other nominees for the May award were Marshfield softball player Megan Donahue, Stratford baseball player Cole Hoffman, Auburndale track athlete Kali Karl and Spencer track athlete Noah Zastrow.
Coker, a sophomore, finished second in the Marawood Conference North Division with a .512 batting average (22-for-43) as the Bluejays tied for the conference title. He led the conference with 10 doubles and also had 10 RBIs as Athens reached the WIAA Division 4 sectionals.
Coker joins Columbus Catholic volleyball player Kendra Baierl (September), Columbus Catholic soccer player Nadim Torbey (October), Abbotsford football player Ethan Kramas (November), Owen-Withee girls basketball player Jennifer Wendler (December), Marshfield boys basketball player Ethan Posteluk (January), Columbus Catholic boys basketball player Tyler Fuerlinger (February), the Stratford wrestling team (March), and Pittsville baseball player Jacob Neve (April) as winners of the award during the 2016-17 school year.
