Stratford girls basketball snaps losing streak with win over Prentice

STRATFORD – After a tight first half, the Stratford girls basketball team upped its defensive pressure and held Prentice to just 11 points to beat the Buccaneers 44-30 in a Marawood Conference crossover game Friday night at Stratford High School.

Stratford (2-5) trailed 19-18 at halftime, but held Prentice (5-2) to just 11 points in the second half to pull away for the win.

Despite shooting just 11 of 45 from the field, Stratford was able to grab the victory by making 19 of 26 free throws. Mariah Zawislan led Stratford with 11 points. Brenna Ackley had 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, Blaire Linder added nine points, and Taya Nett made 8 of 11 free throws for all eight of her points for the Tigers, who snapped a five-game losing streak.

Stratford hosts Wisconsin Rapids Assumption for a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday.
