HUDSON – The Marshfield girls basketball team put up a valiant fight, but ran out of gas late and dropped a 50-42 decision to Hudson in a WIAA Division 1 regional final Saturday night at Hudson High School.

Hudson (20-5) closed the game on a 17-9 run over the final nine minutes to pull away and move on to a Division 1 sectional semifinal matchup with Neenah next Thursday. Marshfield finishes its season with a 17-8 record.

Hudson took a 6-0 lead before Marshfield rallied for seven-straight points, capped by a three-point play from Hailey Klumb, and the game would be tight for the remainder of the first half.

Hudson took a 15-14 lead into halftime after Zaida Kolbeck scored five points in the final two minutes for the Tigers.

The lead changed hands seven times over the first nine minutes of the second half.

A 3-pointer from Ashley Grancorvitz put Marshfield on top 31-30, the last time the Tigers would be in front.

After an Ayana Bousum basket tied the game at 33-33 for the Tigers with a little more than nine minutes to go, Marshfield did not make another field goal until the closing seconds.

Hudson took advantage, going on a 14-1 run to gain control. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Olivia Grothaus gave Hudson the lead for good, and the Raiders were able to make enough free throws down the stretch to finish off the win.

Kolbeck finished with 17 points and Grancorvitz had 10 in her final game for Marshfield.

Ella Carstensen led Hudson with 18 points, all coming in the second half, and Grothaus added 15, 12 after halftime.
