WAUSAU – The Auburndale softball team grabbed the first contest of a big two-game Marawood Conference South Division set with rival Stratford on Tuesday, knocking off the Tigers 8-2.

The game was moved to Athletic Park in Wausau due to wet conditions in Stratford.

Stratford scored single tallies in the first and second innings before Auburndale erupted for three-run innings in both the fourth and fifth to pull away.

Morgan Griesbach settled in for Auburndale in the circle after the first two innings and finished off the win with four strikeouts while scattering seven hits and three walks. She also had a pair of hits and scored twice.

Mya Krings had a two-run single in the fourth, Myah Katzenberger had three hits and drove in two with a double in the fifth, and Danika Blomberg also had three hits for the Eagles (9-3, 4-1 Marawood Conference South Division).

Laney Pankratz had two hits and an RBI for Stratford (9-5, 3-2 Marawood South), which had its three-game winning streak snapped.

The two teams will play again Thursday at Auburndale High School beginning at 4:45 p.m.
