Spencer softball finishes 1-2 at Rhinelander tournament

RHINELANDER – The Spencer softball went 1-2 at the Danny Mac Tournament in games on Saturday and Sunday at the Hodag Dome in Rhinelander.

Spencer lost to Rib Lake 16-0 and St. Thomas Aquinas/Lena 18-3 on Saturday before winning the seventh-place game in its bracket over Prentice 10-9 on Sunday.

Spencer was held to two hits in the shutout loss to Rib Lake, which were both singles by Hailey Rucker and Hallie Meyer.

St. Thomas Aquinas/Lena scored multiple runs in all four of its at-bats to outlast the Rockets.

Ema Schultz had two hits and scored twice, and Hayly Smith, Rucker and Meyer had RBI in the loss for Spencer.

Spencer won its tournament finale in walk-off fashion, scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh inning against Prentice.

Smith walked and scored the tying run on an error, and with two outs Keely Schuh reached on an infield single to plate Meyer with the winning run.

The Rockets had 13 hits, including three each by Schultz and Schuh. Alexa Weber, Danielle Soback and Abigail Wilke each had two RBI for Spencer.

Berklie Ireland earned the win, striking out six in a complete-game effort.

Spencer’s next scheduled game is Monday, April 1, at Athens.
