URBANA, Ill. – The Marshfield girls soccer team split a pair of games on Saturday to finish third at the two-day Urbana (Ill.) Invitational.

Following a 2-1 victory on Friday, the Tigers lost to Mattoon (Ill.) 1-0 in a semifinal match before winning the third-place game over Centennial (Ill.) 3-0.

Marshfield outshot Mattoon 15-4 but couldn’t find a way to score. Mattoon pushed across the game-winner with five minutes remaining off a corner kick.

Abby Ongna scored off an assist from Shiloh Smith in the 26th minute and Presley Franklin added a goal four minutes later off an Ongna assist to give Marshfield a 2-0 lead against Centennial.

Ongna added another goal 22 minutes into the second half to finish off the win for the Tigers (2-1-1).

Ongna and Kailyn Kurth were named to the All-Tournament team for Marshfield.

The Tigers will open their Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule Thursday at Wausau East. Game time is 7 p.m.
