Marshfield softball rolls past Marathon

MARSHFIELD – Katelyn Sternweis struck out seven on the mound, and contributed two hits and an RBI to lead the Marshfield softball team to a 13-3 nonconference win over Marathon on Tuesday in the Tigers’ home opener at Madison Field.

Marshfield scored three times in the second inning and added five more in the third to open up an 8-0 lead.

After Marathon (2-2) scored its only three runs in the top of the sixth, the Tigers finished off the game with four runs in the bottom of the frame, ending it due to the 10-run rule.

Marshfield (2-2) finished with 15 hits, with seven different players ending up with two. Madilynn Cole, Delaney Varsho and Ashlyn Barwick all had two hits and two RBI in the victory.

Marshfield hosts Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
