SPENCER – The Spencer softball team picked up a come-from-behind 13-11 win over Northland Pines on Monday and dropped a 9-6 decision to Pittsville on Tuesday in a pair of nonconference games at Spencer High School.
Spencer led 10-0 after four innings against Northland Pines before the Eagles rallied for nine runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth to take an 11-10 lead.
The Rockets then scored three times in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles by Ema Schultz and Hannah Rucker as the game ended due to darkness.
The game was marred by nine errors and 22 walks between the two teams, but Spencer was able to finish with seven hits, two each from Schultz and Hallie Meyer, and pick up the victory.
Pittsville pitcher Brooke Grossman shut out the Rockets through six innings of Tuesday’s game and took a 9-0 lead into the final inning before Spencer put together a comeback attempt.
Six walks and an error led to the big inning for Spencer, with Hayly Smith and Meyer picking up RBI singles, but stranded the bases loaded to end the game.
Spencer (2-5) will open its Cloverbelt Conference East Division schedule at Greenwood against Loyal/Greenwood on Friday at 5 p.m.
