Franklin, Ongna score twice for Marshfield girls soccer in shutout of Merrill

MARSHFIELD – Presley Franklin and Abby Ongna each scored a pair of goals as the Marshfield girls soccer team shutout Merrill 5-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference match Thursday at Heiting Community Stadium.

Franklin, Keira Raab and Ongna all scored in the opening 26 minutes to put Marshfield up 3-0 at halftime.

Franklin scored 4:03 into the second half, and Ongna added her second 11 minutes later to finish off the win.

Shiloh Smith had an assist and Grace Taylor assisted on both second-half goals for the Tigers, who have won three games in a row and improve to 6-7-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.

Merrill falls to 1-6-2 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

Marshfield will have a week off before WVC pool play begins on Thursday, May 16. Matchups will be announced Friday.
