Marshfield softball blanks Hudson in WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal

HUDSON – Marshfield pitcher Katelyn Sternweis spun a six-hit shutout as the No. 11 seed Tigers upset No. 6 Hudson 6-0 in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal on Wednesday at Hudson High School.

Sternweis struck out six, walked only one, and Marshfield committed just one error as it cruised to the victory. The Tigers (13-14) will play at No. 3 seed D.C. Everest (19-6) on Tuesday. Everest blasted Eau Claire Memorial 14-0 on Wednesday.

Sternweis and Arianna Pugh had RBI singles in the second inning to put Marshfield up for good.

The Tigers added three more in the fifth on run-scoring singles from Sternweis and Madilynn Cole, and an RBI groundout by Ashlyn Barwick.

Lydia Garvin knocked in a run on a groundout as Marshfield tacked on another in the sixth.

Cole finished with three hits, and Avery Kelnhofer, Madison Kraus and Sternweis all had two hits for the Tigers, who finished with 13 overall.
