Gilboy leads Spencer boys basketball team to another win

SPENCER – Spencer outscored Augusta 35-23 in the second half to beat the Beavers 60-49 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball game Friday night at Spencer High School.

The win is the third straight for the Rockets, who are creeping back to the .500 mark at 6-7 overall and 5-6 in the conference. Augusta falls to 9-4, 7-4 in the Cloverbelt East.

Steven Gilboy scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Spencer. Phillip Ivacic added 17 points and Wyatt Phillips had 10 for the Rockets.

Spencer took full advantage at the free-throw line, making 25 of 40. Gilboy was 8 of 11, Phillips went 8 of 15 and Ivacic 7 of 9 as the Rockets put the game away in the fourth quarter. Augusta was just 6 of 13 at the line.

Spencer trailed 26-25 at halftime before using a 14-7 run in the third quarter to pull ahead.

The Rockets play at Owen-Withee on Thursday.
