Second-ranked Wausau West shuts out Marshfield boys hockey

WAUSAU – The Marshfield boys hockey team had its hands full with second-ranked Wausau West on Thursday night.

The Warriors controlled the game, outshooting Marshfield 52-13 en route to a 6-0 blanking of the Tigers in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game at Marathon Park.

Tom Kilgore scored 3 minutes into the game and added another in a four-goal second-period for West, which improves to 19-2 and 10-0 in the WVC, clinching at least a tie for the conference title with two games remaining.

Marshfield was shutout for the second-straight time and falls to 6-14 and 1-9 in the Valley.

Kilgore scored 2:56 into the game and Seth Wage added a goal at the 10:21 mark of the first period, putting West up 2-0.

Cody Hahner got the Warriors rolling in the second, scoring a goal just 1:30 into the period. Kilgore scored at the 9:00 mark, the first of three goals in a span of 3:20 that put the game out of reach for the Tigers.

Mac Alboreo had 46 saves for Marshfield, which hosts Wausau East on Tuesday and Merrill next Thursday to complete its regular-season schedule.
