CADOTT – Three Spencer/Marshfield Columbus Catholic wrestlers will compete at sectionals next week after placing first or second Saturday at the WIAA Division 3 Regional at Cadott High School.
Trevor Ackman (119 pounds) and Kyle Andreae (285) won regional titles and Nick Vaughan placed second at 215 for the Rockets. The trio move on to next week’s WIAA Division 3 Sectional Tournament at Osseo-Fairchild. The top three finishers at the sectional move on to the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament in Madison on Feb. 24-26.
Ackman, a freshman, improved to 33-6 by beating Kyle Runneheim of Phillips 9-7 in the 119-pound championship match.
Andreae, a sophomore, won the 285-pound championship by major decision over Luke Luchterhand of Loyal 8-0.
Vaughan lost the 215-pound championship match but came back to beat Daniel Rossow of Loyal in 3:23 in a second-place wrestleback.
Brady Zais (125), Luke Mahoney (130), Rudy Nieman (135) and Ryan Stange (140) each finished third for Spencer/Columbus.
The Rockets placed fourth out of the six teams at the regional with 148.5 points. Cadott won the team title with 216.5 points and will move on to Division 3 team sectional Tuesday at Clear Lake.
