Spencer softball sweeps pair from Columbus Catholic

MARSHFIELD – The Spencer softball team pushed its win streak to 12 games by sweeping a Cloverbelt Conference East Division doubleheader from Marshfield Columbus Catholic 14-3 and 12-0 on Tuesday at Brehm Park.

Nicole Bruss earned the victory in both games. She struck out three and walked two in three innings in the opener, and struck out six and walked five in the second game. Tynae Phillips finished up both games on the mound for the Rockets.

Krystal Weier had the big blow for the Rockets in Game 1, blasting a grand slam home run. Courtney Schulz was 3-for-4, and Erika Taylor was 2-for-3 and Kailyn Anderson and Bruss each went 2-for-4 for Spencer.

Miranda Dieringer, Katrina Hill, Erin Knoeck and Shauna Rhodes had hits for the Dons.

In Game 2, Bruss went 3-for-3 and Paige Johnson was 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs. Spencer had eight hits in all.

Spencer improves to 13-1 overall and 11-1 in the Cloverbelt East, maintaining a one-half game lead over Greenwood (11-2) in the conference standings. Columbus drops to 0-15 and 0-14 in conference play.

Spencer plays at Neillsville on Thursday, while Columbus hosts Owen-Withee.
