AUBURNDALE – Tessa Thurs won four events to lead the Edgar girls track and field team to its fourth straight Marawood Conference South Division Track Meet championship on May 16 at Auburndale High School.
Thurs won the 100-meter hurdles (15.56), the 300 hurdles (45.76), the long jump (16-11¾) and the triple jump (36-3¾) to lead the Wildcats to a dominating performance as they piled up 230 points, 94 more than second-place Wausau Newman Catholic.
Newman Catholic won the boys title by just 10 points over Edgar.
Stratford was fourth and Auburndale took fifth in both meets.
Auburndale’s Danica Harrison and Stratford’s Matt Zuelke were double conference champions in the distance races.
Harrison won the girls 1,600 meters (5;32.87) and 3,200 (12:24.68) for the Apaches’ lone victories. She repeated as the champion in the 3,200.
Lakisha Sutton finished second in the long jump (16-3) for Auburndale.
The Stratford girls 400 relay team was second and the 800 relay team took third for the two of the Tigers’ top finishes.
Megan Skwierczynski was third in the 3,200 (12:55.43) and Tracy Arnes was fourth in the discus (92-9) for Stratford.
Zuelke won the same two races on the boys side, taking first in the 1,600 (4:44.41) and 3,200 (10:14.04) for Stratford. He finished second in each race last year.
The Stratford 400 and 1,600 relay teams also took first place for the Tigers, as did Eli Temanson, who won the pole vault. Temanson tied teammate Jake Griffith with a vault of 12 feet, with Temanson winning due to hitting the mark in less attempts.
Isaac Castellano took third in the high jump (5-6) and Aaron Swensen was fourth in the 3,200 (11:07.71) for Auburndale’s top finishes.
Auburndale will participate in the WIAA Division 3 regional on Monday at Stratford.
