Marshfield baseball advances with clutch WIAA regional final win over River Falls

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield baseball team won a WIAA Division 1 regional final over River Falls 6-5 in thrilling fashion on Friday at Jack Hackman Field.

The Tigers (15-5), the No. 4 seed in their half of the sectional, move on to a sectional semifinal on Tuesday at Wisconsin Rapids against No. 1 seed Eau Claire North (16-4). The game will start at 11 a.m. at Witter Field.

Stevens Point (20-6) and Chippewa Falls (15-5) will play in the other semifinal at 2 p.m., with the winners facing off in the sectional championship game at 5 p.m.

Sean Koran delivered a two-run, game-winning single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Marshfield to the victory and into the sectionals.

Koran knocked in Elliot Ashbeck, who walked to lead off the inning, and Brian Brost, who had an infield single with two outs.

River Falls had rallied to take a 4-3 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning.
