MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Chaparrals amateur baseball team rallied but fell short, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Appleton Legends on Wednesday night at Jack Hackman Field.

Appleton led 2-0 after scoring runs in the first and seventh innings before Marshfield tried to rally.

The Chaparrals (11-5) scored a run in the eighth inning against Appleton reliever Cory Richardson, but couldn’t muster another. Marshfield had two hits against Appleton’s Dave Salzwedel in the ninth but left them stranded.

Justin Moroder had two of Marshfield’s five hits, including a double.

Jake Long took the loss, allowing only an unearned run in six innings. He struck out five and did not walk a batter. Cain Trunkel gave up one run in three innings of relief for the Chaparrals.

Marshfield returns to action Friday at Waupaca and plays its next home game July 13 against the Everest Merchants.
