WAUSAU – Wausau East scored just 7:16 into the game and made the lead hold up, downing Marshfield 1-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer game Tuesday.

Nick Sorenson scored off an assist from Eric Barrone 7:16 into the game for the only score of the contest.

Wausau East (3-1, 2-0 WVC) is already the last remaining undefeated team in the conference. Marshfield falls to 1-4 and 1-2 in the Valley.

“East controlled the ball on us very well,” Marshfield coach Ron Todryk said. “They did an outstanding job of using the short passing game to keep us back on our heels.

“We tried to play catch-up with the long ball and it just didn’t work for us.”

Marshfield hosts Merrill at 5 p.m. Thursday at Griese Park.
