The WIAA announced its Level 1 football playoff pairings for Divisions 1 and 2 on Tuesday afternoon following a judge’s ruling that will allow the Messmer/Shorewood co-op team into the playoffs. The ruling comes after the WIAA had delayed release of its complete playoff field for three days.

Messmer/Shorewood had asked for the injunction after the WIAA said the program was ineligible for the playoffs because it had dropped out of a conference and faced a four-year ban per WIAA rules. However, Messmer/Shorewood joined a new conference this year and the judge ruled that the WIAA must allow the team to be in the playoffs since it qualified with a 4-3 conference record. Messmer/Shorewood is in the Division 1 playoff field.

Locally, Marshfield (8-1) earned a No. 3 seed in its Division 2 bracket and will host former Wisconsin Valley Conference rival Merrill (4-5) at 7 p.m. Friday at Beell Stadium.

With a win, the Tigers would take on the winner of No. 2 seed Menomonie (8-1) and New Richmond (4-5) on Oct. 28 or Oct. 29.

Tomah is the No. 1 seed in Marshfield’s bracket.
