AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale volleyball team took its first step toward repeating its trip to the state tournament after dispatching Thorp 25-11, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20 in a WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal Tuesday night at Auburndale High School.
Setter Kendra Kundinger led the Apaches’ charge with 34 assists, Kari Willfahrt had a team-high 17 kills and Nicole Nikolay added 13 in the victory.
Defensively, Auburndale had 79 digs, led by Nikolay’s 20, and 14 each from Kundinger and Willfahrt.
Auburndale, the No. 2 seed in its regional bracket, will host No. 3 Stanley-Boyd in a regional semifinal on Thursday. The winner will take on the winner of No. 1 Spencer and No. 4 Colby in a regional final at the higher seed on Saturday.
